Re: gathering on february
Sat, February 9, 2008 - 12:32 PMBig Island... the Seaview Estate lawn is in South Puna, just between Kalani and Kehena beach. If you're out on that part of the red road, Sunday afternoons starting around 1:30pm, and the weather isn't pouring rain, come check out the scene... a bit mellower than the sunday drum circle at Kehena beach, with virtually none of the alcohol and ghetto vibes that the Kehena beach drum circle is suffering from.
Seaview residents have asked us to ONLY park in the cindered parking area on the upper part of the lawn. Driving on the lawn itself endangers our ability to be at the venue. Please, it's just common courtesy.
I personally love the music at Seaview Lawn. We make music with singing, stringed instruments, flutes, etc-- last time we chanted and sung songs that were popular at rainbow gatherings over 20 years ago. Many people who go are noticeably naturally high from the ecstatic dance held earlier at Kalani. Although neither the seaview lawn scene nor Kehena beach drum circle has anything to do with rainbow gatherings per se, you could use the analogy that Kehena beach is Seaview lawn's A-camp. :-)
I used to be a regular at Kehena beach on Sundays. I knew Kehena beach wasn't for my family anymore when the spot where we usually laid out our blanket for the kids to play on was taken up by a table for vending something... maybe even ice cold beer. Then there is the sketchy parking area scene above the beach, where I've had gangsta-looking toughs peering over my shoulder as I unloaded the car, presumably looking to see if I had anything worth stealing, or at least making an intimidating show of it. I personally wasn't worried because I don't ever bring valuables, just two carseats-- even if you are on ice, you'd have to stoop pretty low to want to break into the car of a family with young kids. I am so happy and grateful that we now have the Seaview lawn scene to get away from all that and be more free and safe and to express ourselves in our own way yet still be in community.
Leilani, please check your private tribe mail for the site of our Wed, Feb 20 get-together which will be held somewhere else in South Puna.
Aloha,
Benjamin
